Aluminum Diamond Plate Fenders
This type of fender is very common in the boat trailer world. When detailing boats for a business, it's a normal expectation that besides detailing the boat, you also detail the trailer, or at least the fenders. Many boat trailers like this one are made from steel, unpolished aluminum and/or galvenized steel. Galvanized steel trailers have a liquid zinc coating designed to help prevent and slow down rust and corrosion. When it comes to these three types of trailer materials and/or coatings, there is little you can do to improve how the trailer looks EXCEPT for removing the oxidation on the diamond plate trailer fenders by polishing to restore a brilliant, chrome-like appearance.

Personal Opinion?
I don't think these aluminum diamond plate fenders have EVER been polished or maintained. The level of oxidation and corrosion is off the charts!

The level of oxidation and corrosion is severe.

I always do what I call, preserving the ugly, by covering the side of whatever it is I'm demonstrating on to - preserve the before or the ugly.

After results
Below are a few pictures showing the after result from removing the oxidation and corrosion.

15 to 20 minutes
This took me around 20 minutes from start to finish to remove 33 years of oxidation and neglect and provided the finishing touches to this boat detail.

Real-World, Hands-on Detailing Classes
We cover this topic plus so much more in all our Extreme Boat Detailing Classes, which are a part of our 3-day detailing classes here in sunny, Stuart Florida.

  • You can take the entire 3 day class and in a single weekend learn the 3 most popular and profitable detailing topics - Paint Correction and Ceramic Coatings - Removing Orange Peel via Sanding - Extreme Boat Detailing
  • Or you take just the first 2 days and/or just the boat detailing day, which is always day 3 of the class.

The next class coming up is Friday, November 10th, Saturday, November 11th and Sunday, November 12th

Training Cars and Boats for the November 3-Day Class

NOTE: We are the ONLY class on Earth that shows you what you actually get to train on BEFORE you sign-up and pay for a class. With all other classes all you can do is cross your fingers and hope you actually get to train on an actual car or boat as in most classes - you train on a demo hood.

Risky Business
Sorry to say we lost our Internet connection at the 39:05 time stamp.

Internet came back up at the 42:48 Time stamp. You can simply fast-forward to the 42:48 time stamp and the video and audio resumed.

Hard to say what happened, but our good neighbor was moving his Internet Cable Box and wiring around in his office, next to our office and this included running some new cable under the concrete floors to the Fire Room. I checked with him and he doesn't know what could have happened. The ironic thing is, he's moving everything around after seeing how clean and neat our office is, so in a way, we caused the problem by being "detailed". :)
