Traffic Film Road Stain Grime Dirt Build Up on Paint - 2017 QX30
This is my wife's 2017 Infiniti QX30. We gave this a full interior and exterior detail in January 22nd, 2022. We have not touched the outside of this car since that day. As I type today on July 1st, 2024, it has been 30 months or 2 years and 6 months. The car is always parked under the cover of a carport, but not an enclosed garage. Before detailing the QX30, it had previously been ceramic coated with a house brand of ceramic coating from the geek. Fast-forward to the year 2022, and during this detail session, we used another brand of ceramic coating.
Road Grime - Traffic Film - Dirt Stain on Paint
After washing and claying the paint, I did some poising work on the hood, using a white colored polish and white colored foam pads. What you're going to see in the pictures below is called, Traffic Film, or Road Grime or Dirt Staining on Paint. Here's the key take-away, if your car is exposed to the outside world, over time, you get this dirt staining effect, normally referred to as Traffic Film or Road Grime on the exterior of the car.
Deeper Dive
I washed this car thoroughly. I clayed the paint thoroughly. This means any LOOSE dirt and any BONDED contamination was REMOVED. This means, the BROWN color you see on the white foam buffing pad came off the paint.
That color you see on the pad on the right is the dirt staining that came off the ceramic coated paint.
She came out beautiful, but take my word for it - it's time to do it again.
I'm planning on doing a full interior and exterior detail to this QX30, and it will be interesting to see if like before, the pad turns brown.
Stay tuned...
Mike
