I do not know what part of coatings makes them last longer than waxes and sealants (a lot longer for some coatings).

- They are more resistant to weather, uv, acids, and other things that break down waxes and sealants
- They make stronger bonds with the clear coat (than wax/sealant).
- (maybe both of the above)
- Also, once a coating bonds to the clear coat, is it possible to tell the coating and the clear apart (under a microscope or some other tool)
