***UPDATE***

Just to photo-document the BEFORE condition for ALL the glass on the 1962 before my class undoes some other detailers hack work.

Here she is, an all original 1962 Impala.

NOTE: Before taking the below pictures I cleaned all the glass, both inside and outside. The stains you see are ETCHED onto and into the glass and as such, these will NOT wash off or wipe off. You must machine polish the glass. Which is one of the many topics we cover in our Stuart, Florida classes.

And for what it's worth - I've NEVER seen this topic taught at any other detailing class. Never.

Scratches in Glass

Here's the 1963 Chevy Impala with Random Isolated Deeper Scratches, or RIDS in the windshield. Most of the cars I bring in have much worse Wiper Scratches, but this car only has random straight line scratches running throughout the windshield.

Deeper Scratches Require Sanding the Entire Windshield
Across the top of the Driver's side of the windshield are some DEEP scratches and in my experience, the only way to remove these will be to machine sand the glass using 320 grit sanding discs on rotary polishers. After starting with 320 grit you would work through, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and then 4000 grit sanding discs and then start polishing.

The PROBLEM with trying to remove these deeper scratches is you would have to sand the ENTIRE windshield and we're not doing this type of extreme sub-surface glass polising in this class. We'll machine polish and hopefully remove the majority of the more shallow scratches but only improve the deeper scratches. It's important to know your limits. And as my friend Paul says,
