How to Remove Orange Peel - Fresh Paint Job

Mike,
Thank You so much for the reply and great information, there is no rush, waiting for paint to cure, doing other things to truck, I am only after getting this paint to look a bit better is all, so will go the 2 step machine dry sand method, the mirka is a 5" but assume can get 5.5" interface pads and sanding disc's, with this method should I sand whole truck with both grits even the areas that are somewhat acceptable? Or 1500 on affected areas and 2500 whole truck?
Was going to go with meguiars m110 or m100 and m210 to polish, but surely open to suggestions, like 3D or whatever.
I want to get a good handle on this whole process, I have a couple old muscle cars to get back in action as well.
Thanks So Much!
I see 6" interface pad on the 5" mirka with 6" discs, gotcha

For the areas that look good to you, that is little to no orange peel or surface texture, just machine sand with the 2500. It cuts fast and again, I think when you sand this area of paint, sanding will reveal the actual surface texture and of course flatten it so the paint in this area will have the same gloss and D.O.I. as the rest of the sanded paint.

Yeah, 3D screwed me over, broke our contract and broke their word, (more important), so in good faith, I simply can never help 3D or their parent company or any of their subsidiary companies, (P&S, Hi-Tech), etc.)

I work for Dr. Beasley's, the major difference is they keep their word, what's most important to me. And of course, I wouldn't work for any company that didn't have great abrasive technology. In the car detailing world, I'm known as a paint polisher, not a carpet cleaner. I detail a LOT of cool cars and teach others how to detail cars and for all my work and all our classes, we using nothing but 3D products, so kind of a testimony as to how good their abrasive technology is.

Here's a recap article showing all the cars that went though our classes in 2025 - I would put this collection of cars up against ANY OTHER CLASS on planet Earth. But you won't see any other recap article like this for other classes because they simply can't match what we do at our classes. Heck, at other classes, you're lucky if you get to work on a car at all. But usually, there's plenty of chairs.

And of course, none of the cars pictured in the below write-up looked this good before the class.

2025 Recap - 34 Training Cars Went Through Dr. Beasley's Car Detailing Classes in 2025!

If you already use and are comfortable with Meguiar's abrasive technology, by all means go with what you know. While I don't push Dr. Beasley's products anytime, anywhere, I also don't promote non-Dr. Beasley's products as a professional courtesy to myself.

I worked for Meguiar's for years as a trainer and content creator, and had a great time, but ever since they were bought out by 3M - well I'm just not on that team any longer.

I am totally open to whatever buffing compound and polish you recommend, was just initially thinking on Maguiars not set at all on it, so please give me your recommendations, also please verify 6" interface pad on my 5" mirka, I see 5" interface pads and 5 1/2" sanding disc are available, just want to have exactly the right set up.

Thanks Mike!

The sanding discs I normally source on Amazon.

You have a Mirka DA Sander, but I included a picture of the FLEX FX3411 for others that will read this thread into the future. (I never type for the moment)

Stay tuned for video

Here you go,

I explain why I personally like to use an oversize interface on an undersized backing plate.

It's not about me, it's about the people I train and keeping them safe as well as keeping the car they are sanding safe.

You can find 5" interface pads for 5" backing plate. AND - there are "some" options for 5" sanding discs. Plus, if you want to use 5" and you cannot find any 5" sanding discs in the style or grit level you want, you can always purchase 6" discs and cut them down to 5" discs.

Hope the above helps.

Got it, makes sense, will go with your plan, have to order all the supplies , been 5 wks. Since I painted truck, and winter here, truck in my shop but far from hot in there, so thinking on waiting a minimum of two weeks yet before sanding I am excited to get going on this,
Thanks Mike!
