Terry cotton bonnet?

So what is the correct backing for a terry cotton bonnot? Foam finishing pad ? I want to try one on the truck and Boat but won't the wax soak through the cotton bonnet into the foam pad ? Foam seams to consume a lot of wax

I think I can answer your questions as I've been using bonnets over foam pads on polishers for probably around 15 years, whenever Meguiar's first introduced a bonnet in their offerings), but what is the context?

Are you trying to apply a wax?

Or are you trying to remove a wax?

Also - what tool are you using?
