Paint correction

I spent an hour sanding today. So far I have put 6 layers of paint on this scratch . I am getting close to finishing the project! I am wondering if I need to use a wool pad to start buffing out the area? I will wait for the paint to cure. The light area is sanding marks from 2000 grit sand paper.
I will finish with 3000 and 5000 grit wet sanding. Then apply the clear coat.

Thank you for you for responding and help!
I need to sand again later today as the were a few small valleys in the damaged area.
thank you for your guidance Mike very much appreciated!!!!!!!
I will sand the area again prior to clear coat then , I will buff the clear lightly again!

Yes, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is one of the more spendy events to attend.

General Admission - $595.00

Club D'Elegance - $1,100.00

The Venue Above the Concept Lawn - $1,900.00

The Concours Gallery - $2,400.00

The Pavilion - $3,000.00

Patron's Patio - $3,250.00

Chairman's Hospitality at the Lodge - $4,500.00

So yeah, a tick spendy. I don't remember what I paid the one time I went to the event, as this was back in 1990. I was actually out in Monterey as this is where I did the full sand and buff on Terry Cook's 1956 Lincoln Premier. That same weekend I detailed SCRAPE and helped Chip Foose with his car, 0032 a 1932 Ford Roadster.

After all the detailing work, I checked out the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Lots of walking. :)

Well Mike ! You were correct, the paint came out yesterday while I was wiping the area down before putting the clear down.
I patched this this with spot putty.
I will start sanding today, probably with 1000? I was ticked yesterday!
My plan is to go to the auto supply shop and get a can of paint spray rather than apply with a brush. This has been a good learning experience! :)

Almost finished, I need to sand /polish out the new paint line , suggestions? 1500-2000 then polish out????
I will need to patch with some bumper resin
To fill the scratch . Spot putty did not adhere. We are getting closer!!!
After this is cured I will clear coat w/2k and use a blender.

Looking a lot better. If you do any sanding, maybe keep it real light, like #3000 grit. You can get sanding film discs at Harbor Freight.

Mike, the sanding discs can I use a rotory or do I need a specific polisher. I Have D.A.s
Thanks Nick

When you use a rotary to sand it's no longer callled sanding - it's called grinding.

You should use any short stroke DA polisher and an interface pad. Harbor Freight also has an interface pad.

The HF stuff is all industry standedard 6" - but if you for example, a Porter Cable with a 5" backing plate, just cut the interface and sanding discs to fit or use as they are. It's not rocket science.
