Hi Mike,
I started on driver's side bed side, found out my single stage paint is quite hard and taking much longer than anticipated ,
I made the dreaded mistake and burned thru on bottom edge of fuel fill door, edge was raised a bit, I will re shoot that bed side when done, hopefully no where else!
Happens to all of us... edges are the hardest things to not mess up.
I started then we had a camping trip, so will be getting back at it, need to add counter balance weight to 5" mirka since using 6" interface pad.
My question is, how should I address the areas around the door windows? 3"-4" wide max, be careful or hand wet sand?
For thin panels you either have to hand sand or you need a small dual action polisher with a short orbit stroke. The bad news is - for the most part, all tool manufacturers jumped on the RUPES LONG STROKE Bandwagon. Thus no small short stroke polishers. Everything is 12mm
EXCEPT - the Griot's Garage G8 - which is 8mm orbit stroke. The old, now discontinued Griot's Garage 3" mini polisher was a 5mm and a GREAT small sander. But in order to use either of these you'll then need to purchase 3" interface pads and 3" sanding discs.
I am thinking I can just be careful and really keep an eye on it, but wanted your opinion, I think I have a pretty good handle on it now or at least hope I do.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Mike!
Sanding and buffing an entire car is a daunting job. Just eat it like an Elephant - one bite at a time.
